Registered BAS Agent – providing total accounting assistance to business from data entry, month end reconciliations, supplier payments, payroll, superannuation, BAS preparation/lodgement, management reporting. Scanning service of all invoices/receipts to hard drives makes tax time with your accountant a breeze.
IT Services – website design, VoIP solutions, server and client hardware, network and wireless technologies
What is the story behind your business name?
BookIT – Bookkeeping and IT Services – we thought it was clever!!
How long have you been in business?
We are now in our fifth year of operation having first opened in Brisbane, then moving to Perth and now here in Melbourne where we’ve decided to settle.
How many kids do you have?
Two year old son Lachlan
Four year old daughter Jessica
High and Lows of running your own business?
Highs are definitely the work/life balance. The flexibility to still operate my business even if I am interstate briefly and being the one who benefits from my hard work!!
Lows have been restarting the business and client base from a few interstate moves but hoping to grow and expand into Point Cook and surrounds as soon as I can J
Future goals for your business?
I would like to get the business to a level that I am doing some of the work but also managing my own staff who are helping with the bookkeeping.
I want to be able to work ON the business not IN it in the years to come.
What are some highlights (success) in your business so far?
The fact I haven’t really had to advertise my business much. I would say a good 90% of my business has come through word of mouth. Quality work for your clients makes them the best advocates of your business.
Also I guess a highlight is we are still a strong business even after being in Brisbane then Perth and now Melbourne. Melbourne is our base and we are now looking to grow and expand!
One piece of advice to other mum’s who run a business and struggling with motivation and confidence?
The thing I struggle with at times is self belief. I know I am extremely hard working and great at what I do but BELIEVING in yourself is the key. Once you believe in yourself and your business it can only improve. Take the time to sit back and evaluate where you are and what it is you truly want – then GO FOR IT!!
And any other information you would like to share
As a mum of two small children it can be challenging at times to keep your head above water. Organisation is the key. I am extremely organized and therefore can continue to take on more clients and reach for the sky.
