What is the story behind  your business name?

TRW Business Services is made up of my initials before I got married! T obviously stands for Tania, R is for my middle name, Rochelle and W for my maiden name, White. One of my best friends calls me TRW as a nickname so the idea came from there. The Business Services part of the name came about because I didn’t want to pigeonhole myself as purely a bookkeeper. I am a qualified CPA and offer a range of services including Budgeting, Business Planning, Cashflow Management and Training, as well as traditional bookkeeping services.

How long  have you  been in business?

I started the business in 2007.

How many kids do you have?

I have two kids, both girls. Claire is nearly 10 and Abbey is 7 ½.

High and Lows of running your own business?

The purpose behind starting my business was to give me the flexibility to be available to my kids after school and during holidays, as well as being able to continue to grow professionally. I consider it a High that I can provide a high level of service to my clients, whilst still being able to pick my kids up at 3.00 and attend school activities during the day.  The low is the isolation of working from home – I do sometimes miss being part of a larger team and the support that comes with that.

Future goals for your business?

As well as continuing to grow my client base, I also intend to expand the training side of my business in the future. Currently I provide systems training to clients on a 1 on 1 basis, but I am planning to develop some courses that could be undertaken on a larger scale.

What are some highlights (success) in your business so far?

  • Being a Mum Pages Mum of the Month Winner!  Particularly this month where the awards were made based on votes. It is wonderful to feel such support from clients and friends!
  • Regularly receiving new clients via word of mouth referrals  – satisfied clients are certainly one of the best forms of advertising a business can have.
  • Working with such a range of clients, from new start-ups to large corporations. To be part of their success, whatever the stage of business they are in is a huge highlight.

One piece of advice to other mum’s who run a business and struggling with motivation and confidence?

Take advantage of local networking groups. I regularly attend Heartlink Point Cook, and it provides a wonderful environment of supportive businesswomen to connect with. Many of us work alone, so being part of a networking group is a great way to take some time to think about your business and keep you motivated.
